SOLAR POWER BATTERY PACKS

Frequently, systems operating in remote locations without local power need to be autonomous.  Supplying their own power from solar panels is often the best way to accomplish this.  As an authorized Kyocera Solar Products partner, SWE can provide a solar power solution for directly powering your system or charging batteries.

Solar Panel ChargerLead acid batteries are commonly used in solar powered systems and their charging requirements are well understood.  SWE has the only Lithium Ion battery charger designed for solar panel use in the industry.  Drawing upon our years of experience with Lithium Ion pack design experience, SWE has developed a Lithium Ion regulator that is not available anywhere else.

Lead-acid batteries have traditionally been the most sensible choice for high power UPS and high energy portable solar system applications. However, there have been a string of incremental and leapfrog advances in Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Ion Polymer batteries and ancillary circuits that make Lithium-Ion batteries an attractive alternative to lead-acid.

These advances include higher power cells, stand-by charging algorithms, higher voltage architecture, environmental improvements, longevity improvements, packaging improvements, safety improvements, and continuous cell balancing.

The comparisons indicate that in a high power 20KW UPS application, battery weight can be reduced by 8:1, size reduced by 5:1 and estimated float life by 2:1 using Li-Ion batteries instead of lead-acid. Another comparison shows a 20 Watt, 660 Watt-hour solar panel system that is completely contained within the solar panel frame, that weights only 23 pounds, and that is able to be back packed into remote areas by only one person. A similar system using lead acid batteries would weigh 3 times as much (69 lbs), would be twice the size, could not be backpacked by most normal people, and would last only half as long.
